Why is coconut wax better than soy wax?

Updated: Mar 28, 2023

Both coconut wax and soy wax are natural and sustainable options for candles, but there are a few reasons why we at Edrial Hayward prefer coconut wax over soy wax.

  1. Better scent throw: Coconut wax has a lower melting point than soy wax, which means that it can hold more fragrance oil and produce a stronger scent. This makes it a great choice for us as we want our candles to have a more powerful aroma.

  2. Longer burn time: Coconut wax has a slower burn time than soy wax, which means that candles made with coconut wax tend to last longer. This helps to make our candles more cost-effective in the long run.

  3. More eco-friendly: While both coconut wax and soy wax are eco-friendly options, we prefer coconut wax because it has a lower carbon footprint. This is because soy wax often requires a lot of energy to produce and may require transportation over long distances, which can increase its environmental impact. Did know that coconut trees can produce coconuts for up to 80 years, and once the tree is harvested, it can continue to grow and produce more coconuts?

  4. Creamier texture: Coconut wax has a creamy and smooth texture, which can give candles a more luxurious look and feel. In contrast, soy wax can sometimes have a rough or grainy texture.

  5. No additives required: Some soy wax candles may require the addition of other waxes or chemicals to improve its texture or burn properties, but coconut wax can often be used on its own without any additives.

Overall, we believe that coconut wax is a more sustainable and eco-friendly choice for candles. Its renewable sourcing, biodegradability, clean burning properties, and low carbon footprint make it a great option for consumers who are looking to make more environmentally conscious choices.
